Disability Advocates of Kent County hold bus stop clearing contest

Disability Advocates of Kent County hold bus stop clearing contest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—The higher temperatures and rain will likely not rid West Michigan of all of its snow, which is why the Disability Advocates of Kent County is inviting all shovelers to take part in a contest.

The organization is asking everyone to help dig out bus stops in the Grand Rapids metro area, which are buried under snow.  While many people can climb over the snow banks to get on buses, people with disabilities cannot.

People who dig out a bus stop are asked to take a before and after picture and email them to Aric Coleman at aric.c@dakc.us , along with the location of the bus stop.  The Disability Advocates of Kent County will post the pictures on its Facebook Page to recognize your efforts.  Members of the group that clears the most stops by Feb.

The new WZZM13 Weather Guide is now available here at the station for anyone wishing to read statistics and see the photo winners of the 2013 Weather Guide.

Copies of the new guide were also inserted in the Advance Paper, delivered with the Grand Rapids Press this past Sunday, January 26, 2014.

Feel free to stop by the station located at 645  3 Mile Rd. NW for your copy. It will be interesting to compare last year’s weather with what we are experiencing in weather in our area this year.

It’s a great paper for school discussions.

MI House Representative Takes A Flying Leap

MI House Representative Takes A Flying Leap

It was a cold February day when MI House Representative Lisa Poshumus Lyons took a flying leap into a freezing pool for charity. It was the Legislative Polar Plunge at the Capitol Building in Lansing for Special Olympics Michigan Athletes. About 20 Michigan Legislators, plus Lt. Governor Brian Calley lined up to show their support for Special Olympics Michigan. The second annual Legislative Polar Plunge raised more than $30,000 to benefit children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This Polar Plunge was one of 28 Polar Plunges throughout Michigan from January through this month to benefit Special Olympics Michigan.
