Over 25 organizations will exhibit, demonstrate and show their wares.

Yes, being green has definitely caught on. Manufacturers, architects, and businesses of all kinds have found ingenious ways to conserve and preserve. But how about every day family households that want to help? What can they do that’s affordable, simple and saves? PARTY FOR THE PLANET at John Ball Zoo is the place to find out! The event will take place on Saturday, April 16, from 10am until 3pm.

Over 25 West. Michigan organizations will be attending PARTY FOR THE PLANET and each will offer something unique.

Let worms eat your garbage! Vermicomposting, or worm composting, is a way to compost your plant and vegetable waste indoors, all year round. Blandford Nature Center staff will teach you haw to make your very own worm bin. Participants will receive detailed instructions on the creation and upkeep of a complete worm compost bin.

John Ball Zoo’s Summer Discovery Program is a unique, hands-on learning experience for children ages 3 years to those entering 9th grade! Classes are designed for age students will be at the start of the class or for the grade level students will be entering in fall 2011. Whether you choose to attend during the day or overnight, the Summer Discovery Programs at the zoo are both fun and educational.

Twilight Sensory Safari – Exploring the Night at John Ball Zoo

Experience the zoo in a new 'light'. Bring your family, flashlight and a sense of adventure for this guided tour of the zoo as the sun goes down. Learn how to use your senses at night and how animals are adapted to life in the dark. The program includes an animal encounter, hands-on activities for all ages and guided tour.

Pre-registration and pre-payment required. Minimum age - 5 years old. Participants 16 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Join us for pancakes, sausage, and Blandford maple syrup!  From 9 AM to Noon at CA Frost School we'll be serving up delicious plates of food, $5 for kids and $10 for adults.

Price includes admission to our Sugarbush Festival.  Walk right from your breakfast to Blandford Nature Center.  From 10AM to 5PM the historic buildings are open with interpreters and the full Sugarbush operation will be in-progress.  Blandford School students will have a special station explaining Native American maple sugar making.

Want to sleep in and just join the festival?  Price is $5 per person at the front gate.

GRAND RAPIDS - John Ball Zoo has published the fourth issue of its Winter Journal. The journal is full of interesting information about what goes on at the zoo during the winter months. This month's issue talks about a Maned Wolf, Ferret and Mossy Frog.
