My Town GR West: John Ball Zoo summer camp ready for children

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—School is out for most districts, which means it’s time for summer camp at John Ball Zoo.

Sessions are open to children and teenagers up to those entering 9th grade.  Kids attending the camp get hands-on experience at the zoo, from fixing up treats for the animals to caring for the wildlife habitats.

“I think there are a lot of returners.  We get a lot of kids who start at three years old and we seem them until they enter our teen volunteer program.  When they go home, you got to maybe screen the 3-year-old when they say they fed the lions,” says John Ball Zoo’s Rhiannon Mulligan with a laugh.

For more information about the John Ball Zoo’s camp opportunities, visit the zoo website here.
