Grand Rapids brewery backs organization helping children

Grand Rapids brewery backs organization helping children

COOPERSVILLE, Mich.—A Grand Rapids brewery is throwing its support behind a non-profit organization in Coopersville.

Lori Hastings created “Lori’s Voice” to help children with muscular, neurological and other degenerative diseases. Despite her own physical challenges, Hastings has written two children’s books using voice-activated software and plans to create three more.  Proceeds from the books go to her non-profit organization.

On August 19, The Mitten Brewery Co. on Leonard Street NW plans to donate half of all food sales to Lori’s Voice and the NICU family support program.   The Mitten is also partnering with Lori’s Voice throughout the entire month of August, donating a percentage of all sales to the organization.

Breweries create new beer to support trees

Breweries create new beer to support trees

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Seventeen area breweries are showing their support for trees by creating a new brew.

Each brewery will have its own version of craft tree beer on tap from Sunday, August 4 to Saturday, August 10.  The brewers used ingredients such as maple, oak and cherry to make their tree-inspired beer.  For each pint of craft tree beer sold, select breweries will donate $1 to the Friends of Grand Rapids Parks’ Urban Forest Project.  The remaining breweries are organizing other events and promotions to benefit the Urban Forest Project. The money will be used to create an official Brewers Grove within the city.

Participating breweries include:

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- This year Founders featured a slightly reconfigured celebration to accommodate the ongoing construction at the brewery, but no worries, as all the key Founders Fest element were back: two alternating stages of continuous music, a premier selection of area food trucks, and of course beer tents including a tent of mainstays (and yes, Founders Fest Wheat,) as well as a specialty tent featuring half-pours of specialty brews and/or full pours from specialty firkins.
