Founders Brewing Co. to hold inaugural KBS Week

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.---   Founders Brewing Co. is opening its much-anticipated Kentucky Breakfast Stout release to all of Beer City USA.

KBS Week will run from Tuesday, March through Saturday, March 22.  Founders is giving 15 bars and restaurants in the Grand Rapids area a keg of KBS to tap for customers.  Beer lovers can purchase tickets to any of the tapping events through EventBrite starting Saturday, March 1 at 11 a.m.

KBS is one of Founders most popular beers.  A limited batch is released each year because it must be aged in bourbon barrels for a year in the caves beneath Grand Rapids.  A limited quantity will be released to the local market on Tuesday, March 25, before making its way out of Michigan April 1.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Founders Brewing Co. is getting ready for the much anticipated release of its Kentucky Breakfast Stout.

The Grand Rapids based brewery announced Monday that it will be releasing KBS April 1 for distribution across 27 states.  In a post on Facebook, Founders Brewing Co. says, “We’re doing something special for KBS here in Grand Rapids in March, but we aren’t quite ready to announce the details yet.  Please stay tuned.”

KBS is a potent, chocolate-coffee imperial stout aged 12 months in bourbon barrels.  Founders only makes one batch a year, so demand for a bottle is high.  Some KBS fans will follow delivery trucks on the beer’s release day to try to nab a pack of KBS.

KENT COUNTY, Mich.—Where are the safest places to eat in Kent County?

The county health department is answering that question with the 2013 Food Safety Awards.   The agency whittled down the list of 1,654 eligible restaurants to just 269 facilities, based on routine restaurant and food service inspections over the past year.  Under the county’s criteria, restaurants that earn the award must have a certified food safety manager, no confirmed violations of the Michigan Smoke Free Law and no confirmed foodborne illness outbreaks during the year.
