ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - Friday's golf outing at Gracewill Country Club continuued the 15-year tradition that is Cops Fore Kids.
50 police and probation officers teamed with 50 Grand Rapids teens to play golf. For most of the teens, it was their first time playing the game.
That was true for Aaliyah Williams, who played with WZZM 13's Peter Ross, GRPD officer Mike Harris and 15 year old Tyrique Miller.
"It's going good, playing golf for the first time, having fun" Williams told Ross as they zipped around on a golf cart.
The teens played for free, thanks to donations from many sponsors. They also enjoyed a cookout, prepared by police, who hope events like this will help the teens see police in a new, positive light.
"It's just a day for the cops to kind of connect with the kids" said Jeremy Huffman, a GRPD officer and one of the event's organizers.
