My Town GR West: Remnants of shuttered GRPS school up for auction | News
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— What’s left of Covell Elementary School is going on the auction block this week.
Grand Rapids Public Schools will be auctioning off the remaining assets of the former school from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Items up for bid became available for viewing on Biddergy’s website and at Covell Elementary School Wednesday. They include vehicles, kitchen equipment, sporting goods, shop equipment, preschool items, furniture, desks, tools and electronics. Several oak dining tables, a trampoline, pianos and ball pit balls are all on the auction block.
Bids will be accepted on Biddergy’s website. Those who do not have computer access but wish to place a bid can contact the auction company at (866) 260-1611.
Covell Elementary closed in June 2013 as part of GRPS’ aggressive transformation plan. Three other schools also shut down as part of the plan, which is expected to save the district more than $22 million over five years.
