Father charged with murder of two-year old

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) -- Friends of a Grand Rapids father, charged with the murder of his two-year old daughter, say the mother should be charged too.

The autopsy showed the girl died of blunt force trauma to the stomach and investigators believe it was her father that caused those deadly injuries.

Friday after his arraignment, a family friend expressed frustration that the mother isn't facing some kind of neglect charge for allowing him to stay in the home if she knew he was dangerous.

The two-year old girl, Zaeyana Driggs, died at her home on the city's northeast side Wednesday morning. That's where she lived with her father, Deshawn Threats and her mother Darci Driggs. The two appeared together at a custody hearing Thursday where their other child was placed in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services.

In a personal protection order filed by the mother in June, she accused Threats of abusing her and feared he would harm the children.

After Threats' arraignment, the grandmother of a child he has with another woman says she can't figure out why Driggs allowed him to stay in the house. She went on to say that her granddaughter never had any problems with him.

"She's his firstborn child and he's never, she's never come back home with a mark or a scar. Never unhappy, period. When she comes home, she still wants to go with her daddy," said Janis White.

DeShawn Threats does have a prior history of domestic violence. He's now being charged with murder and as a habitual offender. He is currently being held at the Kent County Jail, without bond.
