Grand Rapids Football Player Heading to Northwood University!

A Grand Rapids Ottawa Hills High School Player is heading for college football. Quinton Pulley signed with Northwood University for this coming fall. Pulley was a three year starter for the Ottawa Hills High School Bengals Football team, and a First Team All Conference in 2012, leading the team with 90 tackles as a middle line backer.

Pulley said he started playing football in the second grade, and didn't even know if he would play at all coming into his freshman year at Ottawa Hills. He said among his best memories are the playoffs that first year with Ottawa Hills.

Area School Hosts Traditional Celebration for First Time

 

Grand River Preparatory High School will celebrate its first ever Homecoming celebration with a week full of events starting Feb. 11, 2013.

The weeklong celebration, themed "A Night on the Red Carpet", includes a powder puff football game, a boys’ volleyball game, a staff vs. students basketball game, college apparel day, costume day, pajama day, and twin day. Friday will conclude the week of celebration with the homecoming assembly and first ever court, the varsity basketball game, and the crowning of the King and Queen at half-time.

“We are very excited to be celebrating our very first homecoming with our students,” said Grand River Preparatory High School Principal Jason Bannister. “Not only will they be showing their pride for their school, but will be helping to give back to their community.”

West Catholic Football Team Scores Practice at Notre Dame

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)-  The West Catholic High School football team will travel to Indianapolis to open the 2012 season. The team will compete against Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit Academy in the first game of a triple header to be played on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Warren Central High School in Northwest Indianapolis. Two other schools confirmed for the event are Warren Central and Indianapolis Cathedral High School. Game time will be announced at a later date.

 

The team will leave West Catholic on chartered busses on Aug. 24. A highlight of the trip will be a stop in South Bend, Ind., where arrangements have been made for the team to practice on the University of Notre Dame practice field.

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Feb. 2 was National Signing Day, and Grand Rapids West Catholic held an in-school "Signing Day” ceremony for six athletes who so far have committed to play at a college or university.

Catholic Central / West Catholic fencing team brings home the trophy

Catholic Central / West Catholic fencing team brings home the trophy

The West Michigan Fencing Academy announced that a composite team from Catholic Central and West Catholic captured the Team Trophy at the Midwest High School Championships.

According to the WMFA, Kayla Kelch of Caledonia High School, Desree Ortega-Furgeson of Catholic Central and Amanda Williams of Rockford High School came in first, second and third, respectively, out of a field of 46 women in the foil competition.  All three were undefeated until meeting each other at the end of the competition.

Alyssa Kamyszek-All Conference OK Black

Alyssa Kamyszek-All Conference OK Black

Alyssa Kamyszek made OK Black All Conference in Golf at Kenowa Hills High School where she is a senior this year. Alyssa also made All Conference in track last season.

She is President of the Honor Society at school and has been active in tutoring students in both Spanish and Math.

Alyssa plans to attend college next year and pursue a career in actuary science.

West Catholic Senior to bowl on Aquinas inaugural team

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- Senior Caleb Steil has been offered a scholarship to Aquinas College to anchor their inaugural bowling team under Coach Frank Rogers.

The elite West Catholic bowler has verbally committed to attend Aquinas beginning in the fall of 2012.

Caleb is a 3-time OK Blue All-Conference member and has been an OK Blue Conference Individual Champion.
