MI House Representative Takes A Flying Leap

MI House Representative Takes A Flying Leap

It was a cold February day when MI House Representative Lisa Poshumus Lyons took a flying leap into a freezing pool for charity. It was the Legislative Polar Plunge at the Capitol Building in Lansing for Special Olympics Michigan Athletes. About 20 Michigan Legislators, plus Lt. Governor Brian Calley lined up to show their support for Special Olympics Michigan. The second annual Legislative Polar Plunge raised more than $30,000 to benefit children and adults with intellectual disabilities. This Polar Plunge was one of 28 Polar Plunges throughout Michigan from January through this month to benefit Special Olympics Michigan.

Sledding and Fresh Air are Free

Sledding and Fresh Air are Free

We have had quite a dry spell this winter in the snow department but now that we finally have some, it is time to take advantage of the free sledding around the area.

I see the hills by Union High School dotted with kids and parents out there having a great time, getting exercise and lots of fresh air. Just a short distance from Union, there is a big hill at Richmond Park, long known for its sledding and tubing and it has been busy each time I drive by. Like someone said recently, if you don’t have a sled or tube, get a piece of cardboard and enjoy this sport.

If parks near you do not have hills there is still the opportunity to do some cross country skiing, a great exercise.

Take advantage of all the snow while it is here.
