Grand Rapids Native to play in US Senior Open Championship

Doug Snoap 53, son of Pat McComb and David Snoap, was born in Grand Rapids, graduated from Grandville High School, attended Davenport College and then went on to the University of Central Florida and since then has resided in Florida.

From the time Doug was 11 years old, he played golf, starting out at Lincoln Golf Course on Lake Michigan Dr. NW, near his family home.

He worked for IBM for several years, then took a year off from work to pursue his golf career but after failing to make the cut, went back to work, this time for the Hilton Hotel chain, his present employer.

Just recently Doug was notified that he was chosen as an alternate for the US Senior Open Championship to be played at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Lake Orion, MI, approximately 35 miles north of Detroit beginning Thursday July 12 through Sunday, July 15. He was third on the alternate list and flew into Michigan on Monday to see if he would be playing.

Nick Price, who was scheduled to play in this tournament, dropped out due to a family emergency and Doug was notified today that he will be playing in Nick Price’s place, along with Fred Couples and Tom Watson. What a thrill for Doug and his entire family. Bob Steuwe of Lowell, Doug’s best friend of many, many years, will caddy for him.

The tournament will air on ESPN2 on Thursday and Friday and the final matches will be shown on NBC Saturday and Sunday.
