Fall Harvest Festival at Blandford Nature Center

Saturday, October 15, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Our annual Harvest Festival is filled with family fun.  We'll have horse-drawn wagon rides, candle dipping, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, the apple press will be in operation making fresh cider, and all our historic building will be open.  We'll also have rope making, blacksmith demonstrations, felt making demonstrations, and our hawks and owls will be on display.  Hours of family fun!

Admission is $5 per person, kids 3 and under are free.  Food will be available for purchase.

Have you thought about what you will do with your garden this winter? What you do in the fall will effect the health of your garden next season. Learn a few tricks from Aaron Snippe, Blandford's farmer, about how to properly put your garden to bed. Appropriate for ages 12 and over with adult.

August & Summer 2011 Weather Stats for Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids (WZZM) -

Temperatures in August averaged 71.8°F, 1.0°F above average but 3.1°F cooler than last year (74.9°F).  Seventeen days were warmer than usual, twelve were cooler, and two were average.  The highest temperature occurred on August 1 with 90°F while the lowest temperature occurred on August 22 with 53°F.  The summer season (June, July and August) averaged 72.7°F, 2.1°F above average, making it the tenth warmest summer on record, but 0.6°F cooler than last summer (73.2°F).

Precipitation was above average last month with 4.42”, 0.83” more than usual and 2.68” more than last year (1.74”).  There were eleven days with measurable precipitation, which is two days more than usual (9).  Summer precipitation was well above average with 14.63”, 3.49” more than usual and 0.19” more than last summer (14.44”).

The greenest bash of the season is coming to Grand Rapids this August, and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks wants you to be part of it. The Green Gala is a one of a kind fundraiser event for Friends of Grand Rapids Parks to advance our mission to protect, enhance and expand parks and public spaces in the city.

Green Gala guests will arrive at 7 PM to enjoy live music, a complimentary green cocktail or local brew and delicious, locally sourced appetizers. Guests can mingle, listen to great live music, capture their event highlights at our playground photo booth, or just enjoy a stroll along the Riverwalk Pathways and through Fish Ladder Park, all while supporting parks and public spaces in our city.
