Explore Millennium Park, Saturday, May 18th

 Millennium Park is offering trolley rides to explore the park on Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This is a free discovery program sponsored by the Kent County Parks Dept along with the Kent/MSU Extension Master Naturalist Program. Docents along the way will explain and talk about the park.

The trolley, funded by Meijer will leave John Ball Zoo at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., returning at 9:50 a.m., 10:50 a.m., 11:50 a.m., 12:50 p.m. and 1:50 p.m.

Park volunteer, Martha McCleery said, “this a day we are making available to people in the city who may not be able to drive or come to Millennium Park otherwise.”

Mini-grant funding invasive species hunt at nature center

 

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Youth volunteers and their families will be on the hunt for invasive species at the Blandford Nature Center Sunday, April 28.

The team of volunteers is getting a $500 mini-grant to help remove invasive species and debris from the center, to improve  native habitats.

The mini-grant is one of 28 awarded by The Michigan Community Service Commission, Michigan Nonprofit Association, Volunteer Centers of Michigan, The League Michigan, and Michigan Campus Compact, with support from Youth Service America and the Corporation for National and Community Service.  More than $10,000 will be awarded to statewide projects for 2013 Global Youth Service Day.

Free program helps home and business owners deal with mercury

(ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY COMPANY)– The Environmental Quality Company is proud to partner with The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Mercury Collection Project.

This is an on-going effort to collect and properly recycle mercury.  Small and large business operations have traditionally been overlooked during mercury collection events.  The project’s objective is to address this issue and promote a long-term solution for easily collecting and recycling of mercury.  The program is free to anyone located in Michigan – residents included. 

The program is easy.
