GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM)- A new sports bar is set to open on the Westside of Grand Rapids.

The new bar is located on the corner of Richmond & Broadway (1568) at the site of the old West Side Bar.  Jason Jenkins, a long-time local mortgage manager is the principal owner of this new business venture.

“We are very excited to be a part of the Westside community.  We look forward to serving the Grand Rapids sports enthusiast and those simply looking for a fun place to gather,” Jenkins commented.

While the Pubb is new to the location, the location has a long history on the Westside.  Although information is somewhat sketchy, records show that Louis Shader was serving alcohol on this site as early as 1904.

Other businesses operating on this site include; Olree’s Saloon, Wilson Brothers Soft Drinks, Tommy’s Tavern, and the long-standing West Side Bar.

In addition to adult beverages, Jenkins indicated that a lite food menu will also be available.  “We’re going to try and build on the burger reputation established by the West Side Bar’s “hog burger”.  Our main menu will feature great burgers and munchies with daily luncheon specials.”

Patrons will find a totally renovated inside with the exception of the beautiful tin ceiling and historic wood floor that were retained.  “We hope folks enjoy what we have done on the inside and our looking forward to warmer weather to start improving our “outer shell”.  Until then, we want to remind everyone that “it is what’s on the inside that matters,” Mr. Jenkins emphasized.

When asked about the double “b” spelling of The Pubb, Jason explained that it was in honor of a very close friend of his, Robb Grainger that died in October of 2011. Robb loved his family, golf and fun. He was the Director of the Buick Open and involved with Cadillac's tournament golf program for many years.  Robb was a gentle family man that always made everyone feel welcome. He had a unique way with all those that were in his presence.

Jason concluded, “It is with Robb in mind that we have named our business "The Pubb". We hope that all of our patrons experience the warmth, fun, and good times that were always associated with Robb.”

The fun and good times are planned to start on February 24th  with special activities being scheduled for the Daytona 500, March Madness, St. Patrick’s Day, the Masters, and the Red Wings playoff run!  Jenkins concluded that, “We hope everyone will make us a part of their fun activities as we will supply the drinks, food and atmosphere to ensure a good time.”
